MUSEUM OFFERING FREE ADMISSION TO PRESENTATIONS FOR ARMED FORCES DAY

Presentations: EXHIBIT OPENING WITH KEYNOTE SPEAKER DIK DASO DURING HALL OF FAME CEREMONY

The “Courage from Above: Strategic Bombers of WWII” exhibit includes a new gallery and displays set around five historic aircraft that tell the story of strategic bombing doctrine and strategy development, highlighting strategic bombing campaigns in the European and Pacific theaters.

Keynote speaker, Lt. Col. Dik, Daso, USAF (ret.), Ph.D., is an award winning author and a graduate from the Air Force Academy. He was a flight instructor and flew operational tours in the FR-4 “Phantom II” as well as the “F-15 Eagle.” Daso was assigned to the Pentagon as the Chief of Air Force Doctrine as a member of the USAF Scientific Advisory Board and retired from service in 2001. He began his National Air and Space Museum career in 2001, as the Curator of Modern Military Aircraft History and has written four books­- including the award-winning “Hap Arnold and the Evolution of American Airpower.”

The Hall of Fame exists to recognize, honor, and memorialize individuals or organizations that made significant, impactful, and enduring contributions to the Museum and to Strategic Air Command (SAC) and its mission during the Cold War era.

The 2017 SAC Hall of Fame inductees are Mr. Michael Davis (Ret.), CIA, Gen. Russell E. Dougherty (Dec.), USAF, Gen. Larry D. Welch (Ret.), USAF, and Mr. Ed Wells (Dec.).

The Museum also recognizes contributions made by individuals who support and further the Museum’s mission. Inductees into the Museum Hall of Fame are Mr. Bruce C. Rohde (Ret.), Capt. Lee Seemann (Dec.), USAF, and Mr. Clarence L. Werner.
