SUMMARY 

 

The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum Education Outreach Specialist is a staff position responsible for developing and delivering educational STEM programming “beyond the classroom;” primarily on community outreach and including in-museum activities. This position performs daily activities of the department requiring a positive attitude, educational values, teamwork, and the ability to manage time well. The position is evaluated by the Education Director and reports to the Education Program Manager or Education Coordinator as required under the schedule.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Under the direction of the Education Program Manager; deliver education programs in support of Middle and Elementary school out-of-school-time programming on-site at various locations in the museum service area (primarily Omaha and Lincoln) 
  • Execution of scheduled activities according to the lesson plan for each session 
  • Travel for each outreach session with the personal vehicle under mileage reimbursement 
  • Continually verify supplies used/needed, and report to the appropriate Education Manager or Coordinator 
  • Under the direction of the Education Manager; deliver education programs in support of K-12 and adult educational activity trips at the museum 
  • Preparation of spaces and materials for outreach, activity field trip options, summer and winter camp activities  
  • Under the direction of the Education Manager; deliver educational programs in support of grades 1-3 and 4-6 summer and winter camps at the museum 
  • Preparation of spaces and materials for camps 
  • Execution of scheduled activities according to the schedule for each camp 
  • Cleanup of all spaces utilized in camps 
  • Consistently verify supplies used/needed, and report to appropriate Education Manager or Coordinator 
  • Cross-train on all education programming  
  • Above standard to excellence in all afterschool outreach programming activities, activity field trip options, summer and winter camp activities, and demonstrations 
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with special groups and schools 
  • Prepare materials, activities, and spaces for education events as needed 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in education, museum studies, or related STEM fields (preferred) 
  • At least 2 years of relevant teaching or museum experience (preferred) 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills 
  • A team player committed to developing a positive work environment 
  • Knowledge and working experience with Google, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
  • Requires a reliable personal vehicle; current driver’s license, registration, and insurance 
  • Must pass a background check 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Commute between but not limited to museums and schools in Omaha/Lincoln Metropolitan areas is required 
  • Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors 
  • Work outside of normal business hours; evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary  
  • Some outdoor work (camps and events) may be performed in varied weather conditions 
  • Physical work includes and requires lifting items of no more than 30 pounds 
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required 

 

JOB CLASSIFICATION: 

  • Full-time, hourly

Pay: From $14.00 per hour (with a 90-day review for a potential pay bump and/or follow-on horizontal position with benefits)
