Education Director
Summary
The Strategic Air Command (SAC) & Aerospace Museum seeks an Education Director. The position is responsible for developing/maintaining the Museum’s local/regional presence, profile, and reputation in a diverse market through educational program offerings. Manages annual education budget and staff/personnel while overseeing numerous and varied programs serving thousands of students annually. Reports to the President/CEO.
Principal Duties
- Establish and/or enforce department/museum policies/procedures
- Responsible for conceiving and implementing innovative educational curricula and outreach programs to entertain, educate, and inspire diverse audiences; Grades 2-12 through young adults/adults.
- Plan, organize, implement, and promote educational activities/events based on STE(A)M, including educator professional development.
- Provide leadership/direct supervision of education staff, volunteers, and interns collaborating with Education Manager, Coordinators, and Trainers.
- Establish/maintain professional rapport w/area school systems and donors
- Develop/maintain annual department budget/resources
- Manage education employee payroll hours and departmental mileage program
- Support, via an application process, education grant programs, including management and required reports
- Recruit, train, and maintain educator staff as needed
- Other duties as assigned by the President/CEO
Knowledge, Skills Required
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in education, with 3-5 years of teaching experience or related managerial/director level leadership experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational program development; practical work experience will also be considered.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and customer service skills
Knowledge, Skills Desired
- A master’s degree in education
- Curriculum development experience
- Broad overview/understanding of aviation, aerospace, and/or strong STEM background preferred
