Solar Eclipse Education Forum
June 29, 2017
ASHLAND, NE (June 9, 2017) – The Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum is hosting a public offering with the University of California, Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory to promote education and awareness of the upcoming August 21 solar eclipse. The forum will be held June 29, 2017 at the museum from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Multiverse Education Team from the University of California, Berkeley has been on a tour across America to help communities prepare for this natural phenomenon and is seeking the support of communities within the eclipse’s totality path.
Sponsored by Google Making & Science, the intent for this educational tour is to collaborate with key stakeholders from communities that lie within the eclipse’s path of totality in order to host meetings and public forums to inform citizens about the science of eclipses, share resources available to informal learning institutions and schools, and to promote the Eclipse MegaMovie.
A large citizen science project is taking place which seeks to recruit volunteers to take images of the sun during “totality” to provide data to scientists and, ultimately, to “stitch” together such images into an Eclipse MegaMovie for the use and enjoyment of the public. The public can visit the Eclipse MegaMovie website here https://eclipsemega.movie/megamovie#science to find ways to participate.
The Multiverse Education Team is scheduled to visit the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum on Thursday, June 29th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to provide an eclipse presentation which will help guests better understand eclipses, provide specific information on what will take place on August 21, and inform those present about the Eclipse MegaMovie citizen science project. There will also be free eclipse viewing glasses given to each guest and other resources such as free educator guides and eclipse activities.
Pre-registration admission for this event is $10/adult and $4/child. Guests can register on the museum’s website www.SACMuseum.org/eclipse. Guests who enter the museum June 29, 2017 without pre-registration can expect to pay the regular admission rate of $12/adult and $6/child. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
