(ASHLAND, NE) The Strategic Air & Space Museum is hosting a gala to raise money and awareness. The gala theme is Wings of Freedom and includes recognizing and honoring former Strategic Air Command (SAC) heroes, and commemorating past contributors.
“Wings of Freedom” will be held on Thursday evening, April 7, 2016 at the Strategic Air & Space Museum in Ashland, NE. The cocktail reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner presentation at 6:00 p.m. The gala will conclude at 8:00 p.m. “Wings of Freedom” includes an induction of SAC heroes into the SAC Hall of Fame.
The SAC Hall of Fame recognizes, honors, and memorializes individuals, organizations and events that made significant, impactful and enduring contributions to SAC, and its mission, during the Cold War era.
The Strategic Air & Space Museum exists to preserve aviation and space related history and inspire learning through imaginative, innovative, and inspirational programs and exhibits. “As the Museum migrates to its new name, Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, in 2016 the public will begin to see more exhibits about Strategic Air Command and the contributions that key military leaders made to SAC and our Nation’s security,” said Dr. Michael McGinnis, Executive Director for the Strategic Air & Space Museum.
The 2016 Wings of Freedom Gala is an opportunity for the public to learn about the future of the museum and to support the Museum which houses a unique collection of aircraft and spacecraft along with the rich history that needs to be preserved for future generations. Tickets to this important event are $125 each and include a cocktail reception, dinner, program, and auction. Tables of eight and sponsorships are also available.
“Funds raised from the gala will be used to support operations and help the Museum make needed improvements in its 18 year old facility,” said McGinnis. The operational dollars raised will also enable the Museum to continue public educational offerings to students including summer camps, group tours, overnight programs, and school field trips to assist teachers in applying high-interest topics to various areas of study at all grade levels. The Museum has programs designed for out-of-the classroom learning on topics in science, technology, engineering, and math.
