Created as a gift from retired USAF Maj. Igor P. Prokofieff to Wallace W. Teller for the United States Bicentennial in 1976, this artwork reflects both the pride and uncertainty of its era.

(Interestingly, the artist mistakenly references a 1976 moon landing, the last Apollo moon landing actually took place in 1972.) The American flags serve as a reminder of the nation’s founding and enduring ideals.
